Ilias Makri was born in Athens in 1979. She graduated from the Department of Ergotherapy of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (2002) and she is a member of the Hellenic Association of Ergotherapists.
She was trained in the systemic therapy in the Family Therapy Unit of the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica (PHA, 2007-2010).
She holds an MA in Occupational Therapy from the University Karolinska Institutet (Sweden, 2005-2007).
In 2001 she completed her clinical training in the Rehabilitation Training Center for Persons with Intellectual Inability “Theotokos”, in the Special Vocational Training Centre, as well as in the Occupational Therapy Department of Aiginitio Daily Hospital.
She commenced her practical training in the Association for the Protection and Rehabilitation of Disabled Children (Chania, 2001), she continued at the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica (Long Hospitalization Unit, Dromokaitio) and was completed in the Therapy Center TER KOUTER (Belgium) for people with developmental disabilities and learning difficulties.
From 2002 to 2005 she worked in the Hospital for Neuropsychopathological Diseases “Milt. Vlastos”, where she conducted individual and group ergotherapy sessions, occupational therapy and organized creative work systems and groups for social reintegration.
At the same time, she was employed in several Associations for Special Therapies, where she worked with children with learning disabilities, autism, Down syndrome and ADHD, and she also cooperated with individuals.
From 2005 onwards she works for “Panagia Grigorousa” clinic as an occupational therapist, undertaking individual and group ergotherapy sessions, programmes of creative work, social skills, communication, integration, socialization and entertainment as well as activities of daily living and self care. Indicatively, she coordinates therapy groups on fine arts, pottery, candle making, music, communication skills as well as indoors and outdoors recreational activities. She also organizes exhibitions and cultural events and collaborates with social rehabilitation institutions.
Focusing on activities and creativity as therapeutic tools, scientific areas in which she has specialized during her postgraduate studies and training, her work aims at restoring the functionality of the individual and improving his/hers quality of life.
