Conversion Disorders

Conversion disorders
People with conversion disorders develop physical symptoms that mimic an organic disease, symptoms which are the result of psychological stress or traumatic events. As pertinent medical tests do not attest any physical cause, doctors very often insist that patients “have nothing” and that everything “comes from their head”. However, these patients do not make up their symptoms and they are not able to have any control on them.
In fact, the symptoms in question cause the patients great discomfort and limit both their ability to function and pursue daily activities. To consider such a patient reliable is absolutely necessary in order to achieve therapeutic results.
Psychotherapy is the most effective therapy for the treatment of this disorder, in conjunction, if necessary, with a wide range of medication that relieves symptoms of anxiety or depression.
