Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders

Dementia
The increase in average life expectancy makes memory disorders increasingly frequent. Dementia is a syndrome attributable to brain damage, either evolutionary or chronic, which occurs with impairment of multiple higher cortical functions, including memory, contemplation orientation, comprehension, execution of arithmetic operations, ability to learn, language and common sense.
Frequently, depression symptoms precede those of dementia itself and complicate diagnosis. Although ALZHEIMER is the most commonly known form of this condition, there are many other forms of dementia. Early diagnosis and treatment of dementia significantly determines the development of the disorder.
In advanced stages of the disease, when arousal symptoms, refusal of food and drink appear, hospitalization and effective response are required.
